Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)/Information Technology Support (ITS)/Technology Applications and Geographic Information Systems (TAGIS)/Kanawha Co. - Office Location: 601 57th Street, Southeast, Charleston, WV 25304 Employee will be assigned to the Information Technology and Support Office, Technology Applications and Geographic Information Systems (TAGIS) Unit. Under direct supervision of the TAGIS manager, employee will be responsible for managing agency enterprise spatial data assets and infrastructure, ensuring fast and reliable access to desktop, web, and mobile clients used by employees located throughout the state. The employee will administer ARCGIS Enterprise software maintained by the State, including system monitoring, configuration, troubleshooting, software upgrades, managing web services, and user accounts. Will maintain GIS databases used by a internal and public applications, including automated synchronization and update of GIS assets with other agency production databases, and with other State organizations. The employee will develop, test, and recommend process improvements to more efficiently and reliably deliver spatial data to agency employees and the public. Will manage periodic update of critical GIS data assets as needed. The employee will provide user support for identifying and understanding available GIS data resources through producing documentation, user guides, presentations, or other means. Employee will perform other related duties as required and/or assigned. Special Requirements: Successful candidate must demonstrate initiative in acquiring new skills and adapting to continually evolving geospatial technologies and methods. Must be able to listen to client needs and create effective and engaging solutions. Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge/experience with ESRI Enterprise software, Web Server Administration, a basic understanding of network communication protocols and security, and experience with Enterprise GIS challenges and solutions. Applicants with skills in Python and ARCPY, SQL, or ESRI Geodatabase design and management are desirable.
NOTE: Regular attendance is an essential part of this position. The use of your personal vehicle may be required at times for business travel. Qualifying applicants will be required to complete an internet based profile assessment to compare the applicant's thinking and reasoning skills, behavioral traits, and the occupational interests against the traits determined to be important to the posted position. All new employees that are involved with specific DEP programs subject to the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) of 1977 must file, prior to final appointment and annually thereafter, a Statement of Employment and Financial Interest (OSM 23).
Training: Bachelor's degree, including six semester hours in computer science or GIS from an accredited college or university. Preference may be given to those with a degree in computer science, geology, geography, natural or earth sciences, forestry, planning, engineering, engineering technology, mathematics, or related field.
