A leading financial services company seek an experienced Application Support Analyst, you can come from a varied background and Automation and Monitoring skills are an advantage.

The Application Support Analyst will be responsible for assisting the provision of operational support for the UK applications.

The Application Support Engineer can grow into a strong technical subject matter expert within their area of responsibility. The team performs a broad range of complex technical activities in their application of proactive measures to prevent service interruptions in the production environment as well as the management of the non-production environments. The employees in this role take proactive steps to ensure that agreed upon service levels are met for both internal and external customers. This group is also responsible the management of a backlog of small business change, and minor enhancements to all UK applications. This role is involved in the resolution of the most complex application technical support needs.

The technical scope of the Application Support Analyst role typically includes one or more of the following:

  • Incident and Problem Management.

  • Release and Deployment.

  • Change Management.

  • Request Fulfilment.

  • Developing code fixes and minor enhancements.

  • Configuration Management.

  • Risk Management - Audit, Business Resumption, and Infrastructure or Applications.

  • Supplier Management - Services and Tools.

  • Business Impact Analysis.

  • Provides initiatives to prevent service outages through the application of systems monitoring and alerting.

  • Provides initiatives to improve service reliability and reduce the cost of service provision through the application of automation.

  • Provides root cause analysis.

Job Specification for the Application Support Engineer position:

  • Strong experience in application support with proven record of managing application issues and delivery of continuous improvement in a similar sized organisation.

  • Has a broad knowledge and understanding of IT concepts and architectures, coupled with practical knowledge of problem management and the principles and processes of implementing and delivering IT services.

  • Shows aptitude for analysing and managing problems arising from incidents.

  • Has a complete understanding and awareness of the nature of business-critical incidents, and of their implications for the business

  • Demonstrates the ability to work with initiative, creativity and flexibility.

  • Experience in maintenance upgrades.

Desirable experience for the Application Support Analyst position:

  • Understanding of Configuration Management and the Software Development life cycle.

  • Ability to automate manual tasks using Scripting languages (eg Shell, python, Perl, bash).

  • Has a good understanding of one or more Monitoring & Automation tools (Control-M, Splunk, AppDynamics, Nagios) and is able to implement improvements to help reduce MTTR.

  • Advises on what constitutes appropriate levels of testing/peer review for code changes prior to release into production.

  • Knowledge of network protocols TCP/IP.

  • Good working knowledge of RDMS.

  • Knowledge of cloud (Azure, AWS); PaaS; SaaS.

  • Knowledge of development tools (eg GIT, TFS, Jenkins).

  • Ability to read, edit or write in one or more programming languages.

  • Knowledge of one or more integration technologies (eg BizTalk, CA Layer7).
