Big Data Engineer - Amsterdam, Netherlands

We have received instructions from one of the world's most innovative Airliners for an SAP BW consultant. This exciting and challenging project is happening in a beautiful and vibrant city in The Netherlands and will provide long term (6months +) job continuity and lots of job satisfaction.

The associate will be part of the Business intelligence team for Finance. He/she will be leading projects around reporting, EPM tools and data visualization topics.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience building production-grade data processing systems as a Data Engineer
  • In-depth knowledge of - and experience with - the Hadoop ecosystem. For all technologies mentioned below, experience in a production environment is expected.
  • Experience building production applications with Apache Spark;
  • Experience with Big Data processing, Big Data processing and Big Data storage;
  • Experience with columnar storage solutions like Apache HBase and/or Apache Cassandra; including knowledge about data modelling for columnar storage;
  • Experience with Apache Kafka;
  • Experience with integration of data from multiple data sources;
  • Experience with 2 or more Server Side programming languages, eg Python, Java, Scala, C++, etc.
  • Solid background in Software Engineering:
  • Experience with building APIs and knowledge of REST API best practices
  • Knowledge of continuous integration/continuous deployment techniques
  • Proficient with automated testing
  • Understanding of common algorithms and data structures
  • Experience with bringing (data science and/or operations research) models to production and supporting data scientists in industrializing their code
  • Experience in coaching and knowledge sharing to familiarize teams with data and software engineering best practices
  • Hands-on development experience, preferably in a Scrum/Agile setting.
  • Great communication skills, written and spoken (English) and team spirit
  • Preferably Bachelor degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or other relevant fields (less important in light of work experience)
  • Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken).
