Network Engineer

The Network Engineer will be based in the New York office and will be responsible for providing network support to the Americas region and data centres. The Network Engineer will also work closely with global colleagues, including the main regional office based in London. The role will entail a mixture of day-to-day support as well as project work as outlined below.

Responsibilities:

Transactional (60%)

  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level investigation and resolution of network and Firewall incidents, problems and support for the Americas region.
  • Monitor availability and performance of network systems.
  • Co-responsibility for Active Directory, DNS and Windows server management
  • Implement necessary network and Firewall changes.
  • Partner with our WAN provider, who provides the global network for offices, on WAN issues and the provision of new services.
  • Provide support, expert advice and guidance within the IT networks field of expertise.
  • Lead the network element of projects and participate in the appropriate project meetings locally, regionally and globally.
  • Work with a mixture of external vendors and 3rd party providers for support and project

Strategic (40%)

  • Maintain a resilient network environment for disaster recovery including automatic fail-over.
  • Manage vendor relations.
  • Provide backup support for the Wintel infrastructure (VM, Lync, Voice hardware and data circuits).
  • Document processes for internal policies and procedure

Requirements:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience; previous experience within banking or financial services preferred.
  • Good knowledge of Cisco routing/switching/Firewalls
  • Good knowledge of TCP/IP, good troubleshooting skills for TCP/IP Networks
  • Good knowledge of EIGRP/BGP routing and experience with MPLS networks
  • Working knowledge and experience with:
    • Multiple Cisco products, Nexus line of Switches, WLC, and Cisco 38xx series Switches.
    • Cisco monitoring tools
    • Cisco ASA Firewalls & AnyConnect
    • VoIP technologies
    • Firewall policy management and Internet Content filtering management.
  • Knowledge and experience of Palo Alto and Checkpoint Firewalls
  • Excellent Switching/Routing problem solving skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team, both locally in New York and with colleagues globally.
  • Excellent communication skills, eg the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical staff and being able to engage with end users and third party suppliers/vendors
  • Ability to plan and organize/work management (eg, the ability to successfully manage multiple streams of work).
  • Quality and attention to detail.
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Ability to lift 40lb

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognized professional certification in Cisco technologies, such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE highly desired.
  • Experience with the following considered a plus:
    • Microsoft Lync/Skype Telephony
    • Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy Objects, Malware/Anti-virus vendors
    • ITIL Foundation certificate
