Production Technician (Cambridge Region)

Based at Fulbourn Road, Cambridge

Salary: £23,000 - £28,000 per annum (dependent on experience) plus standby

37 ½ hours per week Monday - Friday plus standby and overtime

Water is a precious and vital resource used by us all in our homes and businesses daily. At Cambridge Water we're committed to providing high-quality water, exceptional levels of service and great value for money.

We have an exciting opportunity in our Cambridge Region Production Department for a, technically minded individual to join our small team as a field-based Production Technician. We are responsible for the abstraction, treatment and distribution of water to over 300,000 people in Cambridge and the surrounding areas. This is a highly skilled and varied role, involving undertaking routine and reactive maintenance, operation and adjustment of our water treatment equipment, both inside and outside of normal working hours.

This is a multi-discipline role, and will require skills in either complex mechanical and electrical maintenance, process control or SCADA systems, as well as an understanding of basic water treatment. The ideal candidate would possess one or two of these skills; however, as part of the team you will have unrivalled opportunity to expand your skillset and experience.

Duties will include:

•Undertaking routine and reactive maintenance of electrical and mechanical water treatment equipment

•Receiving/undertaking deliveries of key water treatment chemicals and spares between sites

•Increasing/decreasing production output to meet water demand according to forecast

•Maintaining and calibrating key water quality instruments to ensure we are producing water to the highest standards.

•Assisting in the delivery of new treatment plant in line with our investment plans including supervision of contractors.

•Undertaking out-of-hours standby to ensure that any operational issues are resolved without interruption to customer supply.

To fulfil this role, you will have experience of operating and maintaining complex equipment, ideally within a Production or Water Industry environment. You will possess good numeracy and problem solving skills; a valid driving licence is essential.

As a significant proportion of work may be electrical, ideally you will possess or be working towards an HNC or equivalent in an electrical discipline; however, candidates with suitable backgrounds may be eligible for training. You will be an excellent communicator and be able to work unsupervised, and as part of a wider team. As the job requires regular outdoor work, and access to chambers and rooftops, a reasonable level of physical fitness is essential.
