Prospero Teaching is looking for enthusiastic, caring, and motivated individuals to join our team as Primary Mentors in Bournemouth.

This is a fantastic opportunity for people who are passionate about supporting children and young people, including those who may need extra guidance, encouragement, and positive role models to help them thrive.

We welcome applications from a range of backgrounds, including support workers, youth workers, sports coaches, teaching assistants, police officers, armed forces personnel, care professionals, and experienced mentors. If you have experience building positive relationships, motivating others, and supporting young people, we would love to hear from you.

As a Primary Mentor, you will provide 1:1 support to children who may need help developing confidence, social skills, emotional resilience, and engagement with learning.

Contract/Position Details

Location: Bournemouth
Position: Primary Mentor
Age Range: Primary (EYFS - Year 6)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Ongoing
Working Pattern: Part-time, flexible hours
Pay Rate: £25-£30 per hour

The Role

As a Primary Mentor, you will:

Provide 1:1 mentoring and support to primary-aged children.
Build trusting relationships and act as a positive role model.
Encourage confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
Support children with learning, communication, behaviour, and personal development.
Use your own skills, interests, and experiences to engage pupils.
Deliver structured activities that promote teamwork, resilience, and life skills.
Complete regular feedback reports to track progress and achievements.You do not need to have worked in a classroom before - we are looking for individuals who can connect with young people, inspire them, and help them overcome barriers.

Ideal Backgrounds Include:

We would welcome applications from people with experience in:

Youth work or mentoring
Residential or community support work
Sports coaching or activity leadership
Police, military, or emergency services
Care work and support roles
Teaching assistants or education support
Coaching, counselling, or pastoral rolesYour ability to encourage, motivate, and positively influence children is what matters most.

Experience, Training and Qualifications (Desirable)

Experience working with children or young people.
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
Experience supporting children with additional needs, SEND, SEMH, or challenging behaviour.
Relevant qualifications such as QTS, PGCE, Teaching Assistant qualifications, youth work qualifications, coaching qualifications, or similar.

To Be Eligible for This Role Through Prospero Teaching, You Must:

Hold the Right to Work in the UK.
Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service or be willing to complete a new DBS application.
Provide two professional child-related references.
Have experience supporting children or young people in a professional or voluntary capacity.
