Embedded Linux Software Engineer
Location: Manchester (Hybrid - 3 days office / 2 days home)
Salary: Up to £60,000 + Bonus
Our client, a well-established and growing engineering business based in Manchester, is looking for an experienced Embedded Linux Software Engineer to join their software development team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on complex, physical product-based systems with long product lifecycles, contributing to system architecture and low-level embedded development within a collaborative, technically-driven environment.
You'll be working on resource-constrained embedded platforms, helping shape system architecture, and developing robust, high-quality software for real-world hardware applications.
The Role
As Embedded Linux Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and developing software for embedded systems, working closely with hardware and firmware teams to deliver reliable, well-architected solutions.
You'll bring strong object-oriented development skills and genuine embedded Linux expertise to a business that values engineering rigour and long-term product thinking.
Essential Experience
Experience developing for embedded Linux systems, with in-depth knowledge of system architecture design
Experience developing commercial object-oriented applications using a C-like language, ideally C++ or C#
Experience developing for resource-constrained embedded platforms
Experience developing large-scale applications using Git version controlDesirable Experience
Experience developing GUI applications for embedded Linux systems
A strong appreciation of the hardware environment your software runs within
Professional experience developing applications in C#
Development within the Debian ecosystem, including CI/CD
Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio
Experience developing for HMI-based systems
Demonstrable knowledge of XAML/WPF development using the MVVM pattern
Experience with Agile methodologies such as SAFe
Knowledge of machine-to-machine communication protocols and technologies (e.g. Fieldbus, industrial Ethernet protocols, MQTT)What's on Offer
