Up to £45,000 DOE
Monday to Friday 9:30pm to 6am
South Manchester

The Role
You will lead Production and Packing performance during the night shift, ensuring output, efficiency, food safety and quality standards are consistently achieved. The role requires early starts to support line readiness, startup checks and shift planning. You will coordinate labour, resolve issues quickly, maintain strong communication across departments and ensure the shift runs smoothly from start to finish.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading Production and Packing to deliver production plans and customer requirements
Coordinating line start ups and ensuring materials and equipment are ready before production begins
Managing staff rotas in line with labour budgets including agency workers
Managing holiday requests and absences with accurate recording
Allocating labour effectively across lines to maximise output and minimise downtime
Ensuring clear communication between Production, QA, Engineering, Warehouse and Planning
Attending production and shift meetings and providing structured handovers
Completing all written documentation accurately and on time
Driving KPI performance including output, efficiency, yield, waste, downtime and labour
Monitoring performance throughout the shift and implementing corrective actions
Identifying and escalating operational risks early to protect service levels
Supporting continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and implementing solutions
Managing the team fairly and consistently with clear direction and accountability
Supporting and guiding Team Leaders to ensure strong performance across their areas
Promoting a positive working environment with discipline and professionalism
Supporting training, development and coaching to improve capability
Managing absence issues and ensuring appropriate cover is arranged
Leading the team to meet food safety, internal process and GMP standards
Ensuring product quality checks and documentation are completed correctly
Investigating non-conformances and implementing corrective actions
Ensuring the shift remains audit ready in line with BRC and customer standards
Promoting a strong food safety culture across Production and Packing
Championing health and safety standards and PPE compliance
Managing risks, reporting hazards and ensuring corrective actions are implemented
Leading initial incident response and supporting investigations
Working with Engineering to prioritise breakdown response and planned maintenance
Supporting Technical with audits, traceability exercises and customer requirements
Communicating clearly with senior management on shift performance, issues and actions taken
The Person:
Experience in food manufacturing or FMCG
Knowledge of food safety systems and compliance requirements including BRC, HACCP and GMP
Strong people leadership skills with experience coordinating teams and driving performance
Ability to manage priorities, make decisions quickly and remain calm under pressure
Strong communication skills with confidence holding meetings and difficult conversations
Flexibility to meet early start requirements and operational demands
Knowledge of monitoring and managing OEE
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
HACCP Level 3 desirable
Food Safety Level 3 desirable
