IoT & Digital Systems Solution Architect
Location: Bristol (Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-time - Permanent - Hybrid
Salary: £55,000 - £70,000Day-to-day of the role:
Produce clear, high-quality High-Level Designs (HLDs) to support project initiation and solution approval.
Develop detailed Low-Level Designs (LLDs) for complex or high-risk solutions where required.
Lead solution discovery and early-stage architecture definition, ensuring business and technical requirements are appropriately translated into solution designs.
Support impact assessments, architectural governance activities, and Technical Design Authority (TDA) submissions.
Design and assure solutions spanning Internet of Things (IoT), Access Control, Building Management Systems (BMS), Building Information Modelling (BIM), asset data, and enterprise IT infrastructure.
Define integration approaches, API strategies, and data flows across digital platforms and operational technologies.
Engage with internal teams and third-party suppliers, facilitating technical reviews and evaluating architectural options to support informed decision-making.Required Skills & Qualifications:
Broad understanding of IoT, enterprise data, BIM, system integration, infrastructure, APIs, and security.
Ability to balance hands-on solution design with architecture governance and stakeholder engagement.
Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language.
Pragmatic, collaborative approach focused on delivering business outcomes.
Proven experience producing High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs).
Experience designing solutions involving IoT, smart building technologies, access control, or related operational technology environments.
Good understanding of API design, systems integration, and common integration patterns.
Knowledge of BIM, Common Data Environments (CDE), or structured asset information.Desirable:
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
Understanding of IoT and Operational Technology (OT) security principles.
Experience using architecture modelling frameworks and tools such as UML, BPMN, or ArchiMate.
