Machine Operator | Renfrewshire | Temp to Permanent
The Opportunity
NT Engineering & Manufacturing are proud to be recruiting on behalf of Smith & McLaurin, a well-established manufacturing business currently going through a period of growth. These Machine Operator positions span two departments - the Slitting & Finishing department and the Coating Process team.
You will start as a Machine Operator and work through a structured 12-week training programme. The business is investing in this team and in the right people who join it. If you have the attitude and ability, there is a genuine path forward.
Shift Pattern
The shift pattern is one of the real attractions here. 12-hour shifts on a 2-week rotation - a long week of 44 hours followed by a short week of 32 hours, averaging 39.6 hours per week. No weekends. No Friday back-shifts.
This pattern gives you proper blocks of time off throughout the month. If work-life balance matters to you, this is worth paying attention to.
The Package
The overall package here is genuinely strong, and for many people the combination of shift pattern, leave, benefits and a growing business will be exactly what they are looking for.
Good Hourly Rate
36 Days Annual Leave
Full Sick Pay
Strong Pension
Growth Business
12-Week Training
Ideal Background
If you have worked in any of the following environments, we want to hear from you:
Whisky Lines / Spirits
Drinks / FMCG
Printing
Industrial background
Tannery
Paper / Film / Coating
Lamination / Slitting
Who We're Looking For?
Experience working in a factory or manufacturing environment, ideally with larger industrial machinery
Previous semi-skilled machine operator experience, or strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Able to operate equipment with minimal supervision once trained
Conscientious and detail-oriented - able to work to production targets and quality standards
Comfortable working as part of a team in a high-output production environment
Basic IT skills - data input into spreadsheets (IBM AS400 system training provided on site)
Forklift licence advantageous, particularly with pole attachment experience
Flexible and willing to do a reasonable amount of overtime, sometimes at 1–2 days’ notice
Positive attitude and a genuine drive to develop and progress within the business
Temp to Permanent - A Real Pathway
These positions start on a temporary basis and move to permanent after a successful 12-week period. This is not just a contract job — it is a try-before-you-commit opportunity for both sides. The business is growing and wants people who want to grow with it. Perform well and the long-term opportunity is real.
