Project Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Site Engineer to lead key structural and refurbishment packages on the Pier 3 Bridge project in Crawley. This is an immediate 4-month contract opportunity focusing on complex structural modifications, bridge jacking, and multi-disciplinary interface management within a high-security airfield environment.
You will manage crucial sub-contractor packages, drive temporary works sign-offs, and ensure seamless delivery across various mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural trades. Given the airside operational setting, strong stakeholder coordination and strict compliance with permit regimes are critical.
Key Responsibilities
Package Management: Take technical and operational management of specialist sub-contract packages, including bridge jacking, bearing replacements, grit blasting, protective re-painting, and internal/external building alterations.
Temporary Works & Permits: Manage complex temporary works systems (including major scaffolding operations) and take ownership of strict airside permit management regimes.
Cross-Discipline Interface: Coordinate daily work interfaces between civil/structural packages and specialist Electrical and Plumbing suppliers to eliminate project clashes.
Stakeholder Management: Act as a key technical liaison with airport stakeholders, operations teams, and sub-contractors to maintain smooth delivery without impacting airport operations.
Quality Assurance & Safety: Oversee quality checks, sign off on Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), enforce strict RAMS, and maintain a zero-harm working environment.
Requirements
Airport Experience: Previous experience working within Crawley or another major UK airport environment is strongly preferred.
Technical Background: Proven track record as a Senior Engineer managing structural repairs, bridge jacking/bearings, major temporary works, and building alterations.
Airside Vetting & Security:
Must be willing to undergo a DBS check and provide a 5-year checkable work history to process a full Airside Pass.
Candidates will initially start on a temporary pass unless a valid full Airside Pass is already held.
Qualifications:
Degree, HND, or HNC in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
Valid CSCS Card (Black or Gold).
SMSTS and First Aid at Work.
Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) ticket is highly advantageous.
