Fabrication Workshop Manager

Location: Gosfield

Hours: 7:30am - 4pm, Monday - Friday

Salary: £30- £40k DOE

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Fabrication Workshop Manager to lead operations within a busy manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for overseeing fabrication activities, ensuring high-quality production, and driving efficiency across the workshop.

You will play a key role in delivering production targets, maintaining safety standards, and developing a high-performing team, while supporting ongoing business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop & Production Management

Oversee daily fabrication and production activities to meet delivery schedules
Coordinate welding, fabrication, and assembly operations
Monitor workflow and ensure build targets and deadlines are achieved
Allocate labour and resources effectively across the workshop
Drive improvements in productivity and outputTeam Leadership

Lead, motivate, and develop a team of fabricators, welders, and operatives
Conduct regular team briefings and toolbox talks
Manage performance, attendance, and training needs
Support development of multi-skilled teams and mentor junior staffHealth & Safety

Ensure compliance with all health & safety regulations and procedures
Promote safe working practices including use of PPE and equipment
Conduct risk assessments and support incident investigations
Maintain high housekeeping standards across the workshopQuality & Standards

Ensure all work meets engineering specifications and quality requirements
Carry out inspections and support quality control processes
Work collaboratively to resolve fabrication issues
Drive right-first-time manufacturing and reduce reworkContinuous Improvement

Identify and implement process and workflow improvements
Reduce downtime, waste, and inefficiencies
Support lean manufacturing initiatives
Monitor key performance metricsEquipment & Maintenance

Ensure fabrication equipment and machinery are maintained and operational
Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules
Manage tooling, consumables, and material requirementsPlanning & Communication

Liaise with internal teams including engineering, planning, and production
Provide updates on progress and production status
Support production planning and capacity management

Skills & Experience

Essential:

Strong background in fabrication and welding within a manufacturing environment
Previous supervisory or management experience
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Knowledge of MIG welding and structural fabrication
Experience managing production schedules and KPIs
Strong leadership and organisational skills
Good understanding of health & safety practicesDesirable:

Experience within vehicle, trailer, or heavy engineering manufacturing
Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement
Relevant fabrication or welding qualifications

Key Performance Indicators

Production output and delivery performance
Labour efficiency and productivity
Quality and rework levels
Equipment uptime and downtime reduction
Health & safety compliance
Team engagement and attendance

Working Environment

Manufacturing and fabrication workshop setting
Exposure to machinery, welding processes, and lifting equipment
PPE required at all times
Flexibility to meet production demands
