Infrastructure Support Engineer
Permanent | Dorset, Hybrid 2 days per week | MySQL | AWS
We are seeking a Cloud Engineer to join an Operations team supporting the cloud, data and backend systems that underpin a range of products and services. You'll play a key role in maintaining reliable, secure and high-performing environments, working across cloud infrastructure, application support and SQL-backed platforms.
This role offers a diverse mix of cloud operations, troubleshooting, automation and data investigation. You'll work closely with Infrastructure Support, Application Support, Development and QA teams to identify root causes, improve reliability and ensure services remain operational and supportable. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical fundamentals, an inquisitive mindset and a passion for continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Support and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure and backend platforms.
Investigate and resolve infrastructure, application and database incidents.
Monitor system health, performance and availability, improving observability where needed.
Support deployments, platform changes and operational maintenance activities.
Automate repeatable tasks and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Work closely with Development, QA and Support teams to deliver reliable services.
Support security, patching, backup and disaster recovery processes.
Skills & Experience:
Experience supporting production environments, with strong knowledge of SQL and database-backed applications.
Hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, VPC, ECS/EKS, RDS, CloudFormation and CloudWatch.
Strong understanding of Linux and/or Windows Server administration.
Experience working with MySQL, including performance troubleshooting, query optimisation fundamentals, scheduled jobs and backup/recovery concepts.
Understanding of networking principles including routing, firewalls, security groups and VPN connectivity.
Proven troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyse logs, alerts, metrics and data to identify root causes.
Experience using PowerShell, Bash, Python or SQL scripting to automate operational tasks.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to effectively use and integrate AI-assisted activities into daily work.
Proactive and inquisitive mindset with a focus on learning and continuous improvement.
Desirable skills:
Cloud Security experience from a previous role
Transport, Logistics or Engineering
