Senior Planning Engineer

About the Opportunity

A leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Planning Lead to support the delivery of a major UK infrastructure project.

This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional with a strong background in major civil engineering, tunnelling or complex infrastructure projects. You will play a key role in developing, managing and maintaining project programmes, supporting successful project delivery from pre-construction through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain and manage detailed project programmes using industry-standard planning software.

Produce fully resourced programmes and ensure alignment with project objectives and contractual requirements.

Prepare visual planning outputs, phasing plans and programme presentations for project teams and clients.

Carry out programme risk analysis and identify critical path activities.

Work closely with project teams to develop efficient construction methodologies and sequencing.

Coordinate planning activities with design, commercial, temporary works and construction teams.

Manage programme updates throughout the project lifecycle and report on progress against key milestones.

Produce internal and client-facing programmes and progress reports.

Assess programme impacts resulting from scope changes, compensation events and additional works.

Support interface management across multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.

Review construction progress, identify delays and develop mitigation and recovery programmes.

Integrate subcontractor programmes into the master construction programme.

Ensure planning processes comply with contractual obligations and company procedures.

Support project teams in achieving programme certainty, commercial success and on-time project delivery.

Candidate Requirements

*

Previous experience as a Planning Engineer or Senior Planning Engineer within major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.

*

Strong background delivering projects within sectors such as:

*

Tunnelling

*

Rail

*

Highways

*

Utilities

*

Water

*

Energy

*

Heavy Civil Engineering

*

Experience producing and managing complex construction programmes from tender through to project completion.

*

Strong understanding of planning methodologies, critical path analysis and project controls.

*

Experience managing programme changes, compensation events and contractual planning requirements.

*

Ability to work collaboratively with construction, commercial, engineering and subcontractor teams.

*

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

*

Commercial awareness with an understanding of NEC or similar forms of contract.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

*

HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).

*

Strong working knowledge of planning software such as:

*

Primavera P6

*

Microsoft Project

*

Asta Powerproject (desirable)

*

Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook.

*

Experience working on large, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

*

Full UK Driving Licence.
