Part-Time Technical Manager (UKAS / ISO 17025) - Calibration Services
Location: UK (site-based, flexible days)
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 pro rata
Working Pattern: Approximately 2 days per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Manager to support a growing calibration business in achieving UKAS accreditation. This role also incorporates elements of Quality Management and is ideal for a candidate looking for a flexible, part-time position with meaningful impact.
The Role
You will play a key role in leading the organisation through the UKAS accreditation process for calibration activities, particularly relating to autoclaves and associated equipment. Working closely with engineering teams, you will ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards and help embed best practices across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support the UKAS accreditation process for calibration services
Implement and maintain procedures based on an existing Quality Manual
Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements
Conduct internal audits and support quality system implementation
Oversee and guide calibration activities involving time, temperature, and pressure
Develop, review, and apply uncertainty budgets
Interpret and apply EN ratios for inter-laboratory comparisons (ILCs)
Conduct and assess drift analysis
Train, mentor, and motivate engineers with limited experience of the standard
Support auditing, authorisation, and continuous improvement activitiesAbout the Environment
Calibration equipment is already in place and actively used for autoclave calibration
All internal and external calibrations are up to date
Initial inter-laboratory comparisons (temperature probes and pressure gauges) have been completed
Further training, auditing, and formal authorisation processes are required to meet accreditation standardsAbout You
Strong working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017
Proven experience in calibration (time, temperature, pressure)
Solid understanding of uncertainty budgets and drift analysis
Experience with inter-laboratory comparisons and EN ratio interpretation
Ability to audit and implement quality systems effectively
Confident in training and developing technical teamsAdditional Information
This is a part-time employed position; however, consultants will also be considered
