POSITION: Technical Outsourcing Buyer

LOCATION: South Coast

SALARY: Up to £40,000 per annum

TYPE: Permanent

REF: (phone number removed)

HSB Technical Ltd is a specialist recruiter within the Power & Propulsion, Shipbuilding, Shipping & Energy and Aerospace sectors. We have several permanent and contract vacancies available across the UK and overseas.

THE ROLE

HSB Technical is working with one of the largest and most innovative marine companies on the South Coast. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organisation that is using cutting-edge technology to transform traditional marine operations.

Due to continued growth, our client is looking to recruit a Technical Outsourcing Buyer to join its expanding Procurement team.

This is a hands-on and strategic position responsible for converting technical requirements into effective sourcing and outsourcing solutions. You will establish procurement processes, develop supplier relationships, conduct cost analysis and ensure contracts deliver strong commercial and operational value.

Working closely with engineering, operations and senior management, you will help shape supplier strategy and ensure outsourced services are delivered in line with the company’s quality, performance and commercial expectations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Develop and implement structured procurement and outsourcing processes.

* Work with technical and operational teams to understand upcoming requirements.

* Identify, assess and onboard suitable suppliers and technical service providers.

* Prepare and manage RFQs, tenders and supplier selection exercises.

* Review technical scopes, commercial terms and contractual documentation.

* Conduct cost analysis and total cost of ownership assessments.

* Negotiate pricing, service levels and contractual terms with suppliers.

* Set up, manage and renew supplier contracts.

* Develop strong, long-term supplier partnerships.

* Monitor supplier performance, quality, cost and delivery.

* Identify commercial risks and recommend suitable solutions.

* Ensure procurement activity complies with internal processes and governance.

* Plan ahead to ensure suppliers and contracts are in place before operational demand.

* Maintain accurate procurement information using ERP systems and Excel.

REQUIREMENTS

* A procurement or supply chain qualification, or equivalent practical experience.

* Approximately three to six years’ experience within procurement, technical outsourcing or supply chain.

* Previous experience within a technical, marine, defence, engineering or service-based environment.

* Experience managing RFQs, tenders and outsourcing arrangements.

* The ability to read and understand technical scopes, commercial terms and contracts.

* Good knowledge of cost analysis, total cost of ownership and commercial risk.

* Strong Excel skills and experience using ERP systems.

* Confident communication and stakeholder-management skills.

* A proactive, organised and analytical approach.

* The ability to take ownership, establish processes and drive activity forward.

* High levels of integrity and professionalism.

THE PERSON

This position would suit a proactive and commercially aware buyer who is comfortable working in a fast-moving technical environment. You must be a self-starter who can plan ahead, take ownership and establish effective processes rather than waiting for direction.

You will need to confidently challenge suppliers, analyse costs and communicate with technical and operational stakeholders across the business.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

* Salary of up to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience.

* Permanent position with a growing marine technology company.

* Opportunity to work with advanced and cutting-edge marine technology.

* Excellent opportunities for professional development and progression.

* Collaborative and forward-thinking working environment.
