Principal / Authorising Engineer (Electrical)

UK-Wide Remote with Travel

£75,000 + Benefits

Step out of operations & into technical authority.

If you’re currently operating as a Senior Authorised Person or Authorising Engineer within an NHS Trust, MOD environment or FM provider, this is the opportunity to step into a position where you define electrical safety standards — not just work within them.

This role combines the scope of a Principal Authorising Engineer with the flexibility and exposure of a multi-site Authorising position, giving you both strategic influence and broad technical reach across critical infrastructure environments. You will play a key role in maintaining operational safety standards, supporting succession planning, and acting as the focal point for all electrical safety matters within the business.

You’ll operate as a key technical authority across a portfolio of NHS & MOD sites, ensuring Safe Systems of Work are compliant, robust, and consistently applied.

Responsibilities:

Undertaking technical compliance audits & reporting on non-compliance across sites.

Assessing, developing & recommending engineers for Authorised Person (AP) appointments.

Providing assurance that site-level operations align with approved SSoW through audits & competency assessments.

Evaluating competence, training & experience of APs & supporting ongoing development.

Providing technical assurance across HV/LV systems to maintain safe system of work (SSoW) compliance.

Implementing, auditing & monitoring SSoW aligned to statutory electrical regulations.

Acting as the technical interface between senior management & client teams on all electrical safety matters.

Requirements:

Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (IHEEM).

Strong background within NHS, MOD, FM or similar regulated environments.

Proven experience as an Authorising Engineer or a Senior Authorised Person stepping up.

Benefits:

Step into real authority with operation at Principal / AE level with business-wide influence

Autonomous role within a structured environment & further career progression

Strategy over reactivity with a focus on compliance, audits & prevention rather than day-to-day firefighting

26 days holiday + bank holidays

Private healthcare

Life insurance 4x salary

Enhanced company pension scheme
