Scala Developer

£400 per day Inside IR35 | BPSS Required | Hybrid (Leeds) | Initial 3-Month Contract

A leading consultancy is seeking an experienced Scala Developer to join a major public sector digital transformation programme. Working within a collaborative Agile environment, you will play a key role in the development and delivery of scalable applications supporting high-profile government services.

This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to technical decision-making, continuous improvement initiatives, and the delivery of robust, high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Front End and Back End applications using Scala.
  • Collaborate with developers, testers, architects, and business stakeholders to design and deliver effective technical solutions.
  • Participate in the full software development life cycle, from design through to deployment.
  • Follow software engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, and continuous integration.
  • Contribute to technical discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Share knowledge, best practices, and innovative ideas within engineering communities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications using Scala.
  • Experience working with modern software engineering practices and tooling.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Git or alternative version control systems
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Automated testing practices
  • Proven experience with Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working with cloud platforms and cloud-native technologies.
  • Knowledge of microservices and modern software architecture patterns.
  • Previous experience within government, public sector, or large-scale enterprise environments.

Working Arrangements

  • Primarily remote working.
  • Monthly attendance required in Leeds.
  • Onsite visits are typically scheduled as two consecutive days, making this role well suited to candidates who can travel to Leeds as required.

Contract Details

  • Contract: Initial 3-month engagement
  • Rate: £400 per day
  • IR35 Status: Inside IR35
  • Clearance: BPSS Required
  • Location: Hybrid (Remote with monthly Leeds attendance)
  • Start Date: ASAP
