Health & Safety Advisor – Civil Engineering

South Wales

Permanent | Full-Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering major projects across South Wales.

Working across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure schemes, including highways, rail, public realm and civil engineering projects, you will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are maintained throughout project delivery. You will work closely with site management teams, engineers, subcontractors and clients, promoting a proactive safety culture and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and company procedures.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Health & Safety professional looking to develop their career within a well-established contractor delivering high-profile projects.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide professional health and safety advice and support to operational teams across multiple projects.

* Promote a positive safety culture and encourage behavioural safety throughout the business.

* Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.

* Ensure compliance with company policies, CDM Regulations and UK health and safety legislation.

* Assist with the preparation and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).

* Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

* Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and health and safety training where required.

* Monitor subcontractor compliance and support site teams in maintaining the highest safety standards.

* Produce health and safety reports, audit findings and KPI information for senior management.

* Support the maintenance of ISO 45001 management systems and continuous improvement initiatives.

* Build strong relationships with clients, project teams and the supply chain to drive best practice across all projects.

* Keep up to date with changes in legislation and industry guidance, ensuring these are communicated effectively across the business.

Candidate Requirements

* Previous experience as a Health & Safety Advisor within civil engineering, construction, infrastructure or rail.

* Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and CDM Regulations.

* Experience conducting site inspections, audits and incident investigations.

* Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and engage teams at all levels.

* Strong organisational and report-writing skills.

* Full UK Driving Licence.

* Willingness to travel across projects throughout South Wales.

Desirable

* Experience working on highways, rail, infrastructure or major civil engineering projects.

* NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.

* Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH, GradIOSH or CMIOSH).

* Internal Auditor qualification.

* First Aid at Work.

* Experience working within ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accredited management systems.
