Our client is a specialist engineering company providing servicing, repairs, upgrades and maintenance on rail plant and Road Rail Vehicles (RRVs). Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced Plant Fitter to join their close-knit workshop team, working on a wide variety of specialist rail infrastructure equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking for a stable, workshop-based role with regular overtime available, ongoing training and long-term career progression.
The Role:
Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on Road Rail Vehicles (RRVs) and rail plant equipment
Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults
Complete major overhaul, refurbishment and upgrade projects
Work on safety-critical equipment including RCI (Rated Capacity Indicator) systems
Read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics
Carry out fault finding using diagnostic equipment
Support larger refurbishment projects alongside welders, machinists and electrical engineers
Complete inspections and testing to ensure equipment meets required safety standards
Maintain accurate service and repair records
Ensure all work is completed safely and to a high standard
Occasional site work may be required, although the role is primarily workshop-based
The Candidate:
Previous experience as a Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Engineer, Rail Plant Engineer or similar
Strong mechanical and hydraulic fault-finding experience
Experience working on excavators, construction plant, RRVs or specialist rail equipment
Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics
Experience using diagnostic equipment
Electrical experience would be highly advantageous
Welding or fabrication experience would be beneficial but not essential
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Full UK Driving Licence
Ideally 10+ years' experience within the heavy plant or rail plant industry
Salary & Benefits:
£20-£22 per hour (dependant on experience)
37.5-hour working week (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm)
Regular overtime available paid at time and a half
Primarily workshop-based role
Paid travel time for site work where applicable
Company vehicle available for business travel when required
24 days holiday plus bank holidays
3 days reserved for Christmas shutdown
Death in Service benefit after 12 months' service
Ongoing training and development
