A leading engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Steel Project Manager to take full ownership of the structural steel delivery on a major civil engineering scheme. This is a key leadership role overseeing the planning, coordination and execution of both primary and secondary steelwork, ensuring all structural elements are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.
Role Overview
As Steel Project Manager, you will be accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of the steelwork scope - from early design coordination and procurement through to fabrication, erection and final installation. You will work closely with engineering, design, commercial and site delivery teams, providing clear direction to subcontractors and ensuring seamless integration of steelwork within the wider project programme.
This role suits a technically strong, organised and proactive individual who thrives in a fast‑paced infrastructure environment and can bring structure, clarity and leadership to complex steel packages.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of all primary and secondary steelwork on the project.
Manage procurement, fabrication and erection activities, ensuring alignment with programme, budget and technical specifications.
Oversee steelwork subcontractors, driving quality, safety and productivity across all stages of delivery.
Work closely with design and engineering teams to resolve technical queries, coordinate interfaces and ensure buildability.
Conduct regular site inspections, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain progress.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, project requirements and all health and safety regulations.
Provide clear reporting to senior management, highlighting progress, risks, opportunities and resource needs.
Support continuous improvement in steelwork delivery processes and contribute to wider project success.Requirements
Proven experience managing primary and secondary steelwork on major construction or infrastructure projects.
Strong technical understanding of steel fabrication, erection methodologies and structural interfaces.
Demonstrable leadership skills with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and subcontractors.
Experience delivering steelwork on large‑scale civil engineering schemes (structures, bridges, industrial facilities, energy, rail, highways etc.).
Proficiency with project management tools and construction software.
Degree or relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline (preferred).Benefits
