Are you passionate about supporting young children during the early stages of their education?
We are recruiting enthusiastic and dedicated KS1 Teaching Assistants to work across friendly and supportive primary schools throughout Newport from September 2026.
Whether you are an experienced Teaching Assistant, have worked with children in another setting, or are looking to build your career in education, we would love to hear from you.
The Role
As a KS1 Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside class teachers to create a positive, engaging, and nurturing learning environment where pupils feel confident and supported.
Depending on the placement, you may:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support
Support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
Assist with early literacy, phonics, reading, and numeracy activities
Help children develop confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours
Support pupils with ASC, ADHD, SLCN, SEMH, and behavioural needs
Deliver targeted interventions to support pupil progress
Work closely with teachers and ALNCOs to adapt activities and resources to meet individual needs
About You
We are looking for individuals who are:
Caring, patient, and enthusiastic
Confident building positive relationships with young children
Proactive and willing to get involved in classroom activities
Reliable and committed to supporting pupil development
Able to work effectively as part of a school team
Passionate about helping children develop a positive start to their education
Experience within schools, childcare, ALN, youth work, sports coaching, or other child-focused settings would be beneficial. Relevant personal experience may also be considered.
Essential Requirements
EWC registration, or willingness to register
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Two recent professional references covering the last 24 months
