Job Opportunity: Fire Stopper

Location: Sunderland & surrounding Wearside areas

Pay Rate: £25.00 per hour (CIS)

Hours: 40+ hours per week (Monday - Friday)

Duration: Long-term, multi-phase project

The Opportunity

Are you a specialist Passive Fire Protection Operative looking for long-term security, premium rates, and a reliable pipeline of local work?

Search Consultancy has been exclusively appointed to recruit a highly skilled Fire Stopper for a major commercial construction project in Sunderland. This is not a short-term cover role-it is a long-term position focusing on high-level passive fire protection across structural rafters, roof voids, and elevated compartment boundaries.

If you hold the necessary tickets to work safely at height and in restricted areas, this role offers an ideal balance of top-tier pay (£25.00/hr CIS), guaranteed weekly hours, and an organised, safety-conscious site team.

Your Role & Responsibilities

Working on a high-value development on Wearside, you will play a critical role in bringing the building's roof structure up to strict life-safety fire compliance standards. Your day-to-day duties will involve:

Rafter & Void Fire Barrier Installation: Measuring, cutting, and fitting high-specification fire-rated bat, mineral wool slabs, intumescent seals, and structural fire curtains along timber and steel rafter lines.

Complex Penetration Sealing: Applying tested fire-stopping mastics, mortars, and wraps around services, pipework, and ductwork passing through roof spaces and high-level walls.

Powered Access Operations: Safely manoeuvring IPAF-operated machinery (MEWPs) to execute precision installations along high-level soffits, structural steelwork, and elevated rafters.

Confined Space Installations: Navigating restricted roof voids, service risers, and tight structural bays to ensure complete, gap-free fire compartmentation.

Quality Assurance & Compliance: Working strictly to manufacturer details and technical drawings, maintaining flawless standards to ensure every line passes independent safety audits.

Site Safety & Housekeeping: Maintaining a clean working environment at height, managing material waste efficiently, and adhering to strict site safety protocols.

What We're Looking For

Because of the technical nature of this work and the specific access demands of the site, candidates must possess the following tickets and experience:

CSCS Card: A valid CSCS card (Blue Skilled Worker preferred) is mandatory for site access.

Confined Spaces Certificate: An active, accredited Confined Spaces ticket is required for working in restricted roof spaces and structural voids.

IPAF Card (3a & 3b): A valid IPAF license is essential for operating scissor lifts and boom lifts at high levels.

Proven Fire Stopping Experience: Demonstrable hands-on background in passive fire protection, specifically involving rooflines, rafters, or structural fire barrier installations.

Tools & PPE: Complete kit of professional fire-stopping hand tools, battery tools, and full 5-point PPE (including harness/lanyard where required).

Right to Work: Valid proof of right to work in the UK.

At Search Consultancy, we treat our tradespeople as long-term partners. When you join this project in Sunderland, you benefit from:
