Job Title Estimating Engineer
Summary We’re looking for an Estimating Engineer to join a specialist engineering company in Washington, Tyne and Wear. This role is ideal for a detail-focused individual with strong analytical skills and an interest in electrical systems, who wants to play a key part in delivering accurate and cost-effective proposals for major projects.
Location and Working Pattern Washington, Tyne & Wear. Full-time, on-site
Client Overview Our client designs and manufactures bespoke low voltage (LV) switchgear, including distribution boards, panel boards, transformers, and containerised substations. They deliver high-quality engineering solutions to meet complex client requirements across a range of projects.
Responsibilities
Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for switchgear and related electrical projects, covering all materials, labour, and overheads
Review project specifications, drawings, and client requirements to develop robust bids and tenders
Collaborate with sales, engineering, and project teams to ensure seamless handovers and alignment with project goals
Analyse and evaluate project scope to produce technically comprehensive estimates
Maintain accurate records of estimates, tenders, and communications throughout the process
Assess potential risks to project delivery and recommend mitigation strategies
Support continuous improvement efforts by refining estimating processes and methodologiesMust‑have Requirements
HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Good understanding of electrical systems, switchgear products, and relevant industry standards
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
Ability to read, interpret, and analyse technical drawings and specifications
Strong analytical and numerical skills with exceptional attention to detail
Excellent communication and organisational abilities
Right to work in the UKNice‑to‑have Skills
Previous experience in estimating or engineering roles within the switchgear or electrical sector
Knowledge of SME environments
Commercial awareness with capability to balance technical and financial prioritiesBenefits
