Job Title: Fish Scientist

Location: Waltham on the Wolds

Contract Length: 12 Months (with potential for extension)

Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services, is currently seeking a Fish Scientist. Acting as a bridge between commercial product innovation and advanced aquatic biology, this vital position drives the scientific validity underpinning the Fishcare product portfolio for our client.

Job Purpose

To develop, resource, and manage both internal and external fish care research projects. You will oversee trial approvals, analyse complex biological data, and translate scientific findings into actionable business insights and peer-reviewed external publications to maintain the company's position as a global leader in aquatic care.

Responsibilities

● Project & Trial Management: Initiate, gain formal approvals for, and direct both internal lab-based trials and external collaborative research projects

● Data & Statistical Analysis: Execute rigorous statistical analysis (using packages like 'R') on trial data to evaluate fish health, physiology, behavior, and water chemistry outcomes

● Scientific Communication: Write comprehensive internal business reports to guide product development pipelines, and author/publish papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals

● Subject Matter Expertise: Provide scientific support and guidance to the broader petcare business, presenting research findings at high-profile external scientific meetings and conferences

● Resource Coordination: Define, negotiate, and manage the necessary resources, timelines, and budgets required for successful project execution

About You

● Education: PhD in Marine Biology, Fish/Animal Biology, Physiology, Welfare, Ecology, or a closely related biological science domain

● Technical Skills: Proven experience in designing and executing scientific trials, paired with strong statistical analysis capabilities (specifically proficient in 'R')

● Project Leadership: Demonstrated track record of executing research projects, handling trial approval processes, and supporting research workflows for internal teams or external partners

● Communication Excellence: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of publishing scientific papers and translating complex data for non-technical stakeholders

●Husbandry Knowledge: Practical experience with aquatic species handling, care, and husbandry setup is highly preferred
