Hales Group are recruiting for an experienced Lead CNC Machinist / Shift Leader to join our client based in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and growing engineering business, working within a busy and modern workshop environment. This hands-on role combines CNC machining expertise with shift leadership responsibilities, making it ideal for an experienced machinist looking to take the next step in their career.

Working on a rotating shift pattern, you will play a key role in supporting workshop operations, ensuring production targets are achieved, quality standards are maintained, and team members are supported throughout the shift.

Key Responsibilities
CNC Machining

Manufacture precision-engineered components using CNC and manual machining techniques
Set, operate and adjust CNC milling and turning machines
Edit CNC programs in line with engineering drawings and production requirements
Carry out machine set-ups, tooling changes and programme prove-outs
Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Conduct inspections and quality checks to ensure parts meet required standards
Support assembly and workshop activities where required Shift Leadership

Act as the senior point of contact within the workshop during your shift
Support, guide and mentor team members to maintain productivity and quality
Assist in coordinating daily workshop activities and workflow
Help ensure production schedules and delivery targets are achieved
Provide hands-on technical support and problem-solving assistance
Promote safe working practices and adherence to company procedures
Work collaboratively with wider departments to support operational requirements
What We're Looking For

Proven CNC machining experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment
Strong CNC milling, turning, setting and operating skills
Experience editing and adjusting CNC programmes
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately
Previous experience in a senior, lead, supervisory or team-support role
Excellent problem-solving and technical troubleshooting abilities
High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Positive, proactive and reliable approach to work
Ability to work independently while supporting and motivating a team
Full UK driving licence desirable
