The Candidate:
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Software Assurance Consultant to conduct an independent, end-to-end review of their software development life cycle, development governance and AI-assisted engineering practices.
This is a hands-on assurance role requiring someone who can independently assess the effectiveness of software delivery controls, validate automated testing and code review processes, and identify opportunities to strengthen security, quality and operational governance. Working onsite with the development team, you'll provide an objective assessment of existing practices and deliver clear, prioritised recommendations to senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct an independent review of the end-to-end software development life cycle, including development methodology, governance and delivery processes.
- Assess code review practices, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and release sign-off controls.
- Validate that automated controls are functioning effectively through hands-on testing rather than documentation reviews alone.
- Perform or witness fault-injection testing to confirm automated regression testing identifies deliberately introduced defects.
- Review AI-assisted development workflows, including the use of Claude AI and automated code review tooling.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of security controls, code quality processes and release governance.
- Identify weaknesses in development processes and recommend practical improvements aligned to industry best practice.
- Produce clear, prioritised reports and present findings to senior stakeholders.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience conducting independent software assurance, technical governance or control effectiveness reviews.
- Strong background in secure software development with the ability to review code changes and assess the security implications of modifications.
- Experience identifying security risks, including the removal of access control, permission logic and customer data segregation controls.
- Strong SQL Server and T-SQL experience, including familiarity with database unit testing frameworks such as tSQLt.
- Experience assessing CI/CD pipelines, release governance and DevOps work-item traceability.
- Strong understanding of automated testing, regression testing and software quality assurance practices.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools and automated code review solutions, with an understanding of their strengths and limitations.
- Knowledge of multi-tenant architectures and customer data segregation principles.
- Strong understanding of software engineering governance, risk management and secure development best practices.
- Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience presenting findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
