Materials Controller

Location: Leeds Maintenance Facility
Salary: £28,000 per annum, rising to £29,345 upon successful completion of training, plus an excellent benefits package.

Join Our Team

We are looking for an experienced Materials Controller to join our established team at our Leeds Maintenance Facility.

Reporting to the Stores Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient planning, control and movement of materials to support the maintenance, overhaul and repair of locomotives. This is a predominantly office-based position with regular involvement in warehouse operations, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both planning and hands-on logistics.

Working within a friendly team of 3-4 colleagues, you'll benefit from a supportive environment, structured training and genuine opportunities for career progression.

Competitive starting salary of £28,000, increasing to £29,345 following successful completion of training.

Monday to Thursday: 8.5-hour working day (flexible start times available).

The Role

As Materials Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring materials are available when required while maintaining accurate stock control and supporting efficient depot operations.

Key Responsibilities
Manage goods-in processes, checking deliveries for accuracy and quality.
Store materials safely and accurately within the warehouse.
Raise purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
Prepare materials for dispatch to overhaul suppliers.
Load and unload delivery vehicles safely.
Issue materials to production teams.
Carry out stock counts and maintain accurate inventory records.
Expedite supplier orders to minimise operational delays.
Monitor material usage and stock levels across the site.
Liaise with the Stores Manager and production teams across multiple business locations.
Maintain excellent housekeeping standards to promote safety and efficiency.
Ensure compliance with company procedures and quality standards.
About You

We're looking for someone who is organised, proactive and enjoys working in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Essential Skills & Experience
Minimum 2 years' experience as a Materials Controller, Stores Controller, Logistics Coordinator, Stock Controller or similar role.
Experience of materials control, inventory management, logistics or warehouse operations.
Good understanding of procurement and purchasing processes.
Strong planning and organisational skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
Able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
Understanding of budgets and cost control.
Commitment to safe working practices.
Desirable
Fork Lift Truck (FLT) licence.
Full UK driving licence.
