Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home
Location: South London
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
Hours: Full-time Rota-based Monday to Sunday
The Role:
We are recruiting a Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of a children’s residential home. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for an established looking to take the next step in their career.
You will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where young people can thrive, while supporting and leading a committed staff team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the Registered Manager in the overall management and operation of the home.
• Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and line management to Senior and Support Workers.
• Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality care in line with care plans and relevant regulations.
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for young people.
• Deliver regular supervision, appraisals, and on-the-job support to staff.
• Support staff training, induction, and development plans.
• Assist with rota management to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
• Monitor staff performance and promote best practice.
• Ensure confidentiality and compliance with Health & Safety, safeguarding, and regulatory requirements.
• Work collaboratively with families, professionals, and external agencies when required.
About You:
We are looking for someone who is passionate about residential childcare and confident in leading by example.
You will ideally have:
Experience working in a children’s residential home.
Experience of Ofsted inspection. Previous experience as a Deputy Manager or Senior
Support Worker ready to progress.
Strong safeguarding knowledge and understanding of children’s residential regulations.
Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading staff.
A calm, resilient, and child-centred approach.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Qualifications:
• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – essential.
• Level 5 in Leadership & Management (or willingness to work towards) – desirable.
