Senior Highway Engineer
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to join an established highways design team based in Birmingham.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a wide range of highway infrastructure projects, providing technical leadership, supporting project delivery, and contributing to the continued growth of the local engineering team.
You will work on challenging and varied schemes, collaborating with clients, internal disciplines, and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality highway solutions from concept through to completion.
This position is ideal for a technically strong engineer looking to take on greater responsibility, mentor others, and play an active role in developing a successful regional highways team.
Key Responsibilities
·Lead and deliver highway design projects through all stages of development.
·Provide technical input, design reviews, and engineering solutions for highway schemes.
·Manage and support highway design engineers and coordinate with other technical disciplines.
·Liaise with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
·Assist with project planning, resource management, and budget control.
·Support the growth and development of the Birmingham highways team.
·Ensure designs meet relevant standards, specifications, and quality requirements.
Essential Requirements
·Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
·Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional institution (or working towards chartership).
·Significant experience within highway engineering design.
·Strong understanding of highway design principles and industry standards.
·Experience delivering highway infrastructure projects.
·Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
·Ability to lead technical discussions and support junior engineers.
Desirable Experience
·Experience working on major highways or infrastructure projects.
·Knowledge of highway agreements including Section 38 and Section 278 processes.
·Experience with drainage design and Section 104 agreements.
·Proficiency using:
oAutoCAD
oCivil 3D
oMicroDrainage or similar drainage design software
·Experience managing design packages and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
