Our client is a well established marine services organisation seeking an experienced Shipwright to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of vessel repair, refit, maintenance, and modification projects within a busy boatyard environment.

The Role

You will be responsible for the construction, repair, maintenance, and modification of commercial and specialist marine vessels, ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and seaworthiness.

Key Responsibilities

Repair and maintain hulls, decks, bulkheads, superstructures, and other structural components.
Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials using hand and power tools.
Carry out minor steel and aluminium fabrication and repair work.
Undertake composite and woodworking tasks as part of vessel repair and refurbishment projects.
Install and repair fittings, frames, doors, hatches, and related structures.
Support vessel refits, modifications, maintenance programmes, and upgrades.
Assist with structural inspections and alignment activities.
Work closely with engineers, welders, supervisors, and other trades.
Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.

Requirements

Minimum 3 years' experience within shipbuilding, boatbuilding, ship repair, or marine services.
Relevant apprenticeship, vocational qualification, or technical certification in a marine-related discipline.
Proven experience as a Shipwright, Boat Builder, or similar marine trade professional.
Ability to read and interpret marine drawings and technical specifications.
Knowledge of marine construction methods, materials, and fabrication techniques.
Experience using tools, machinery, and lifting equipment common to marine environments.
Composite and/or woodworking skills.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Able to work at height, in confined spaces, and obtain security clearance where required.

Working Environment

Work will be carried out onboard vessels, within workshop facilities, and at waterfront locations. The role involves exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, dust, and heat, with overtime available as required to support project delivery.

Hours

Monday to Thursday: 08:00 - 16:30
Friday: 08:00 - 15:30
39-hour working week

Salary & Benefits

£18.73 per hour (£37,984 per annum)

Benefits include:

23 days annual leave, increasing to 25 days with service.
Option to purchase additional holiday during the first four years of employment.
Workplace pension scheme with employer contributions.
Statutory Sick Pay.

Contract Opportunities

Contractors may be considered to provide short term project support. Rates will be discussed upon application.
