Transport Team Leader

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Team Leader to join a leading food and drink distributor based in Cumbria. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on transport professional to lead a small transport team, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the operation while maintaining the highest standards of service, compliance and operational performance.

The Role

As Transport Team Leader, you will play a key role in overseeing daily transport operations, supporting and developing your team, and ensuring vehicles, drivers and processes operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with transport legislation. This is a hands-on leadership position, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working as part of a close-knit team.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, motivate and support the transport team, providing coaching, training and day-to-day guidance.
Oversee the daily transport operation to ensure deliveries are completed safely, efficiently and on time.
Ensure compliance with transport legislation, Operator Licence requirements, Health & Safety and company policies.
Coordinate the commercial vehicle fleet, including servicing, MOTs, inspections and maintenance schedules.
Investigate transport incidents and implement corrective actions where required.
Monitor operational KPIs and identify opportunities to improve service levels, efficiency and performance.
Foster a positive team culture by leading from the front and working collaboratively with colleagues across the operation.About You

We're looking for a proactive and personable transport professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering operational excellence.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Proven experience leading or managing a team within a transport environment.
The ability to work effectively within a small, close-knit team, leading by example and building strong working relationships.
Essential experience managing multi-temperature (multi-temp) delivery operations.
A proven track record of delivering operational results within a busy transport operation.
Strong knowledge of transport legislation, fleet compliance, Operator Licence requirements and Health & Safety.
An agile and action-oriented approach, with the ability to make decisions and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organisational skills and a keen eye for detail.
Strong communication and people management skills, with a personable leadership style that motivates and develops others.
CPC qualification is desirable but not essential.
Experience within foodservice distribution would be advantageous.Package & Benefits
