Pay: From £92.63 per day (weekly pay)
Teaching Personnel are working with primary schools in the NP7 area seeking dedicated, patient, and resilient Learning Support Assistants to provide 1:1 support for a primary-aged pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), PICA, and behavioural needs.
This is a rewarding role suited to individuals who can remain calm under pressure, build trusting relationships, and provide consistent support to help a pupil feel safe, engaged, and successful within the school environment.
About the Role
Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD, PICA, and behavioural needs
Support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
Follow individual support plans, risk assessments, and behaviour strategies
Monitor and manage PICA-related behaviours, ensuring the pupil's safety at all times
Use positive reinforcement, sensory strategies, and de-escalation techniques
Support transitions, routines, and structured learning activities
Encourage engagement, independence, and participation in classroom activities
Work closely with class teachers, the SENCo, parents, and external professionals
Help create a safe, nurturing, and consistent learning environment
Skills & Experience
Experience supporting children with ASD and/or additional learning needs
Understanding of PICA and the importance of vigilance and risk management
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Ability to build positive relationships and establish trust
Understanding of safeguarding, wellbeing, and SEND practices
Calm, patient, and consistent approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Proactive, observant, and adaptable attitude
Ideal Candidate
Positive, patient, and approachable demeanour
Resilient and calm in challenging situations
Firm but nurturing, with clear and consistent boundaries
Understanding and empathetic towards children with additional needs
Emotionally intelligent and responsive to individual needs
Able to identify behavioural triggers and support emotional regulation

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
