Location: Hybrid (North West)

Our client is looking for an experienced Payments Manager to take ownership of their payments function, ensuring the smooth, secure and compliant delivery of payment services across the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payments professional with a strong understanding of UK payment schemes and card payment networks who is passionate about delivering operational excellence and driving continuous improvement.
The Role
As Payments Manager, you'll oversee the day-to-day operation of the payments function, ensuring transactions are processed efficiently while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and standards. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners, you'll play a key role in enhancing payment processes and supporting business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day payments operation across the business.
Oversee payment processing, reconciliation and exception management.
Ensure compliance with UK payment regulations and industry standards.
Act as the subject matter expert for UK payment schemes and card payments.
Manage relationships with payment providers, banking partners and third-party vendors.
Monitor payment performance, identify trends and drive operational improvements.
Support the implementation of new payment products, services and technologies.
Investigate and resolve complex payment issues and escalations.
Produce management information and reporting for senior stakeholders.
Lead and develop the payments team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience
Proven experience in a Payments Manager or senior payments operations role within financial services.
Strong understanding of UK payment schemes, including Faster Payments, Bacs and CHAPS.
Good knowledge of card schemes, including Visa and Mastercard, and the card payment lifecycle.
Experience working with payment gateways, acquiring, issuing or payment operations.
Strong knowledge of payment regulations and operational controls.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
A proactive approach to process improvement and problem solving.
Experience leading or mentoring teams is advantageous.
