Engineering
Immediate Start
£45k - £60k Annual
Full-Time
This unique role offers the opportunity to work across both New Product Introduction (NPI) and production engineering, transforming innovative R&D concepts into precision-engineered products. You'll play a key role in taking new designs from concept through to manufacture, while also supporting existing products by resolving production challenges, improving designs and driving continuous improvement.

Working alongside experienced Optical and Mechanical Engineers, you'll design precision opto-mechanical assemblies for advanced laser systems, creating solutions that are robust, reliable and easy to manufacture. With a varied workload split between developing new products and supporting production, no two days are the same, making this an ideal opportunity for an engineer who enjoys both design and hands-on problem-solving.

You'll be responsible for designing precision mechanical and opto-mechanical components used to mount and align optical elements, fibre assemblies and laser components. Using 3D CAD, you'll produce detailed designs, engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation while applying sound mechanical engineering principles to ensure products remain stable, reliable and suitable for manufacture and assembly.

Working closely with Optical, Electronics, Manufacturing and Quality teams, you'll help bring new products from concept through to production while also supporting existing products throughout their lifecycle. Around 50% of your time will be spent on NPI projects, with the remaining 50% focused on resolving production and quality issues, implementing design improvements and supporting engineering changes.

This role requires an engineer who can work independently, take ownership of projects and confidently deliver solutions with minimal supervision. You'll be involved in designing components that are easy to manufacture and assemble, collaborating with production teams to improve manufacturability and ensuring products can be successfully introduced into production.

We're looking for a Mechanical or Opto-Mechanical Engineer with experience designing precision components for optical or laser-based products. Experience with fibre optics, lens mounting, optical assemblies or other precision mechanical systems would be highly advantageous, along with a strong understanding of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).

Requirements

Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Industry experience in a Mechanical or Opto-Mechanical Engineering role.
Experience using a 3D CAD package (such as SolidWorks).
Experience designing precision mechanical components and assemblies.
Experience with opto-mechanical design, optical assemblies, fibre optics or precision engineering.
Understanding of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
Ability to work independently and manage engineering projects with minimal supervision.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills with experience supporting manufacturing and resolving production issues
