Lead Quantity Surveyor
Lead Quantity Surveyor
Contract Length: Initial 6 months (possible extension)
Location: UK Wide/Hybrid Working - projects in St Fergus - willingness to travel
Pay Rate: £500 per day via Umbrella Inside IR35
We're supporting a leading organisation within the UK energy and infrastructure sector in the search for an experienced Lead Quantity Surveyor to join a high-profile portfolio of capital projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior commercial professional who thrives in a strategic, advisory role. Rather than being tied to a single project, you'll provide commercial leadership and support across multiple live projects, acting as the go-to escalation point for Quantity Surveyors and project teams.
With projects spanning various stages of development, from FEED and design through to construction delivery, you'll have the opportunity to influence major investment programmes and play a key role in commercial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
As Lead Quantity Surveyor, you will:
- Provide senior commercial support across multiple live projects.
- Act as the escalation point for Quantity Surveyors and project teams on complex commercial and contractual matters.
- Offer expert guidance on NEC contracts, commercial risk and contractual obligations.
- Support commercial forecasting, cost control and financial performance.
- Lead contractor and commercial negotiations.
- Assist with contract reviews, pricing assessments and variations.
- Support dispute avoidance and resolution activities.
- Work closely with project teams to ensure consistency and best practice across the wider portfolio.
Skills & Experience Required
We're keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate:
Essential
- Extensive Quantity Surveying and commercial management experience.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC contracts.
- Experience supporting complex infrastructure, utilities, engineering or major projects environments.
- Commercial risk management and cost forecasting expertise.
- Strong contract negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience managing commercial disputes and resolutions.
- Ability to provide guidance and support to wider commercial teams.
- Experience operating across multiple projects or programmes simultaneously.
Highly Desirable
- Utilities or energy sector experience.
- Experience with NEC Option C and Option E contracts.
- Chartered status (MRICS or equivalent).
- Previous experience mentoring, coaching or supporting commercial teams.
- Leadership experience within a commercial or Quantity Surveying function.
Location
This role offers flexibility on location and is open to candidates across the UK.
While some projects are based in Scotland, the position is not restricted geographically. Travel to project sites and office locations will be required when business needs dictate, so flexibility and willingness to travel are important.
Please note: Due to the high volume of applications, only successful candidates will be contacted. If you do not hear from us within 48 hours, unfortunately, your application has not been successful on this occasion. However, we may retain your details for any future suitable vacancies and contact you accordingly.
