Quantity Surveyor

The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for the commercial management of projects from award through to final account. Working closely with operational teams, the role supports cost control, contract administration, financial reporting, risk management, and the successful commercial delivery of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial aspects of projects throughout the project life cycle.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate cost reports, forecasts, and Cost Value Reconciliations.
  • Administer contracts and manage change control processes.
  • Procure, manage, and administer subcontractor accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, identify commercial risks, and support mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare applications for payment and assist with final accounts.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Provide commercial support and advice to project teams.
  • Attend project meetings and contribute to commercial decision-making.
  • Build effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement and undertake other duties appropriate to the role.

Essential

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or working towards a qualification).
  • Experience in a QS or commercial role within rail, construction, engineering, infrastructure, or related sectors.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and commercial management principles.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
