Location: Harlow, Essex
Salary: £16.50 - £18.50 per hour
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

Job Overview

Our client, a well-established engineering and manufacturing company based in Harlow, is seeking an experienced Manual Lathe Machinist to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist with a strong mechanical background and experience operating manual lathes to produce high-quality precision components. The successful candidate will work with a range of materials, including plastics and metals, while ensuring all components meet required specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operate manual lathes to manufacture precision components.
Set up, adjust, and operate machinery to meet production requirements.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and CAD models.
Select appropriate tooling and machining methods for each job.
Carry out turning, grinding, milling, and assembly tasks as required.
Use hand tools and power tools effectively.
Inspect completed components using measuring equipment, including verniers, micrometers, and gauges.
Ensure all work meets quality standards and customer specifications.
Identify and resolve machining issues where required.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
Follow all company health and safety procedures.

Requirements

Previous experience operating manual lathes within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of machining principles and processes.
Experience working from engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Competent using measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers.
Experience with grinding, milling, and general workshop practices.
Good mechanical knowledge of tooling, fixtures, and machine operation.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills and a proactive approach.

Desirable Skills

Experience working with both metal and plastic components.
Knowledge of CAD/CAM systems, CAD models, or SolidWorks.
Experience in precision engineering environments.
