Job DescriptionJob TitleSchool Business Manager (Part-Time – 2 to 3 Days per Week)
Location- Barnet, London
Reports To - Headteacher
Hours 2–3 days per week, term time plus agreed additional weeks, with some flexibility to attend occasional Governing Body or evening meetings.
£42,777 – £52,816 per annum (Full-Time Equivalent), pro rata, depending on qualifications and experience.
Purpose of the Role - The School Business Manager will work closely with the Headteacher to provide strategic and operational leadership for the school's business functions. The post holder will ensure the effective management of finance, human resources, premises, health and safety, administration, and compliance, supporting the school in delivering high-quality education while ensuring efficient use of resources.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management
Prepare, monitor and manage the school's budget in partnership with the Headteacher.
Produce regular financial reports for the Headteacher and Governing Body.
Monitor income and expenditure and ensure robust financial controls are maintained.
Manage procurement and contracts to secure value for money.
Liaise with the Local Authority and external suppliers regarding financial matters.
Support budget planning and year-end financial processes.Human Resources
Manage recruitment administration, safer recruitment processes and staff onboarding.
Maintain personnel records and oversee payroll administration.
Support the Headteacher with HR matters, staffing changes and employment procedures.
Ensure compliance with employment legislation and school policies.Premises, Health & Safety
Oversee the maintenance, security and development of the school premises.
Manage contracts for cleaning, catering, maintenance and other support services.
Ensure statutory inspections and servicing are completed.
Lead on Health & Safety compliance, risk assessments and emergency planning.Administration and Compliance
Oversee the effective operation of the school office.
Ensure compliance with GDPR and statutory requirements.
Coordinate school census returns, insurance and record management.
Support the development and review of school policies.Leadership and Governance
Work as part of the school's leadership team, contributing to strategic planning.
Attend Finance Committee and Governing Body meetings where required.
Provide professional advice to the Headteacher and Governors on business management matters.
Lead and support administrative staff within areas of responsibility.Person SpecificationEssential
Experience in financial management and budgeting.
Strong organisational and leadership skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Good knowledge of HR, procurement and health & safety requirements.
High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office.

Previous experience as a School Business Manager or in a similar role within education.
Knowledge of Local Authority financial procedures.
Experience using school management and finance systems such as Arbor, Bromcom or FMS.
Relevant business, finance or management qualification.Personal Qualities
