Permanent Secondary SEMH English Teacher Job

Luma Education Recruitment is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary SEMH school seeking a passionate and resilient English Teacher to join their permanent teaching team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified teacher who is committed to helping young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs achieve positive educational outcomes. You'll teach English across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 in small classes, building strong relationships and creating an engaging learning environment where every pupil can succeed.

Whether you already have experience in an SEMH, Alternative Provision or PRU setting, or you're an experienced secondary English teacher looking to move into specialist education, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons for students with SEMH needs.

Differentiate learning to meet individual EHCP targets and varying academic abilities.

Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and progress.

Promote emotional regulation, resilience and positive behaviour through consistent classroom practice.

Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, pastoral teams and senior leaders.

Assess, monitor and report on pupil progress, adapting teaching where required.

Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive school environment.

Essential Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Experience teaching English within a UK secondary school.

Excellent classroom management and behaviour support skills.

A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting vulnerable learners.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable

Experience working within SEMH schools, Alternative Provision, PRUs or specialist settings.

Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, restorative approaches or behaviour support strategies.

Experience supporting pupils with SEND, ADHD or Autism.

Salary & Benefits

Salary of £38,000 - £43,000 per annum depending on experience.
