About the Role
We are looking for a caring and reliable Part-Time Chef to join our small children's residential home. The home supports young people with emotional and behavioural needs, and mealtimes play an important role in creating a warm, homely environment.
You will be responsible for preparing nutritious, home-cooked meals, taking into account individual dietary needs, allergies, cultural preferences, and encouraging healthy eating habits. You will work closely with the staff team to create a positive dining experience that makes young people feel valued and at home.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and cook healthy, balanced meals for up to [insert number] young people and staff.
* Plan varied weekly menus that meet nutritional standards and young people's preferences.
* Cater for special dietary requirements, allergies, cultural and religious needs.
* Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.
* Complete daily food temperature records and cleaning schedules.
* Order food supplies and manage stock effectively within budget.
* Ensure correct storage, rotation and labelling of food.
* Minimise food waste while maintaining meal quality.
* Work flexibly to support birthdays, celebrations and special occasions where required.
* Promote a welcoming, family-style dining environment.
Essential Requirements
* Previous experience as a Chef or Cook.
* Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
* Knowledge of food safety legislation and allergen awareness.
* Good organisational and time management skills.
* Friendly, approachable and able to work independently.
* Understanding of the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality.
Desirable
* Experience working within a children's residential home, school, nursery or care setting.
* Knowledge of healthy nutrition for children and young people.
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
