Project Engineer – Manufacturing
Our client is a well-established, highly respected manufacturing business looking to recruit an experienced Project Engineer to join their Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead engineering projects that improve manufacturing capability, efficiency, quality and safety within a technically advanced production environment.
The successful candidate will combine strong mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge with practical project management experience, taking projects from initial concept through to installation, commissioning and handover. You'll work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Purchasing and external suppliers to deliver projects safely, on time and within budget.
Experience within highly regulated manufacturing environments is advantageous, although full training will be provided for industry-specific requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
You'll take ownership of engineering projects from initial concept through to installation, commissioning and final handover, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time and within budget. Working closely with internal stakeholders, contractors and equipment suppliers, you'll develop project scopes, schedules and budgets, manage project risks and resources, and oversee the procurement, installation and commissioning of new manufacturing equipment and production systems. You'll also ensure contractors operate safely and in line with site procedures by reviewing RAMS, coordinating permits to work where required, and monitoring project performance throughout. Regular communication with stakeholders and suppliers will be key, providing progress updates and ensuring projects are completed to specification and meet business objectives.
Engineering & Technical
* Design and implement manufacturing improvements to enhance performance and reliability.
* Produce, update and maintain engineering drawings using CAD software.
* Interpret mechanical and electrical engineering drawings and technical documentation.
* Develop technical specifications for new machinery, equipment and production systems.
* Review supplier designs and support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
* Assist with installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.
Continuous Improvement
* Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
* Improve equipment reliability, production efficiency and product quality.
Contractor & Supplier Management
* Manage engineering contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with health, safety and site procedures.
* Coordinate contractor activities to minimise disruption to production.
* Monitor contractor performance against agreed deliverables.
* Work closely with suppliers throughout equipment specification, manufacture, installation and commissioning.
* Support capital equipment procurement alongside the Purchasing team.
* Ensure all technical documentation, manuals, drawings and spare parts information are received before project completion.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure engineering projects comply with ISO 9001, Health & Safety legislation and relevant environmental regulations.
Support audits, root cause investigations and continuous improvement activities.
Maintain accurate engineering documentation and drawing revision control.
About You
We're looking for a proactive, hands-on engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges and delivering successful engineering projects within a manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
Project Management qualification (desirable). CAD qualification (desirable).
Experience
* Proven experience delivering engineering projects within manufacturing.
* Experience producing and interpreting engineering drawings.
* Experience introducing new machinery and manufacturing processes.
* Experience managing engineering contractors within live production environments.
* Experience specifying, purchasing and commissioning industrial equipment.
* Experience managing suppliers through installation and project completion.
* Experience within highly regulated industries would be advantageous but is not essential.
Technical Skills
