CAD/BIM Technician – Building Services (Site-Based in Newquay, Cornwall). Progressive national contractor offering expansive opportunity for stability and further growth.
We’re recruiting for a CAD / BIM Technician to join an Engineering Services Team delivering high‑quality digital design support across a varied portfolio of projects. This is a site‑based role within a secure facility in Cornwall, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to produce coordinated, accurate and compliant design outputs. You’ll play a key part in developing 2D drawings, 3D models and fully coordinated building services designs, with a particular focus on electrical systems. The role suits someone with strong Revit/CAD capability, good BIM awareness, and a proactive approach to digital engineering.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models in line with relevant standards.
* Develop and coordinate electrical and building services models, and mechanical disciplines.
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support clash‑free, fully coordinated design delivery.
* Contribute to pre‑construction Health & Safety planning, including risk assessments and design risk management.
* Deliver technical outputs to agreed timescales, budgets and quality requirements.
* Liaise with internal teams and supply chain partners to ensure efficient project delivery.
* Participate in design reviews, responding constructively to technical queries and feedback.
* Support BIM processes including model coordination, data management and compliance with BIM Level 2 and project BEPs.
* Undertake clash detection using tools such as Navisworks.
* Research and implement new digital tools, workflows and modelling techniques to improve efficiency.
* Maintain accurate documentation and ensure all models/drawings are managed in accordance with project requirements (e.g. ProjectWise).
Requirements
* Level 5 qualification or higher in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Civil/Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
* Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and building services coordination.
* Knowledge of electrical systems (power, lighting, containment) within a building services environment is advantageous.
* Proficient in AutoCAD, with experience in Revit and other 3D modelling tools.
* Working knowledge of Navisworks, Plant3D or Civil3D is desirable.
* Familiarity with MicroStation and ProjectWise is beneficial.
* Skilled in both 2D drafting and 3D modelling.
* Good understanding of BIM processes and digital engineering workflows.
* Competent user of Microsoft Office 365.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple teams.
* Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with a passion for digital design.
* Strong work ethic and willingness to learn, develop and share knowledge.
