Are you a recent graduate in Town Planning or a related discipline looking to take the next step in your career? We are working with a well-established and highly regarded planning consultancy in Edinburgh that is looking to recruit a Graduate Town Planner to join its growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has recently completed their degree and has gained some practical experience through a placement year, internship, or previous role within planning. You'll be joining a collaborative team that will support your professional development and provide exposure to a diverse portfolio of planning projects across Scotland.
The Role
As a Graduate Town Planner, you'll work alongside experienced planners on a wide range of residential, commercial, mixed-use and rural development projects. You'll gain hands-on experience throughout the planning process while building the skills and knowledge needed to progress towards MRTPI status.
Key responsibilities include:
Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications.
Supporting the preparation of planning statements, site appraisals and planning reports.
Undertaking planning policy research and reviewing local development plans.
Liaising with clients, local authorities and external consultants.
Assisting with planning appeals and development management work.
Attending client meetings, site visits and stakeholder consultations.
Supporting senior planners with project delivery across a varied client base.
About You
We're keen to hear from candidates who have:
A degree (or postgraduate qualification) in Town Planning or a related discipline accredited by the RTPI.
Around 6-18 months of planning experience through a graduate role, internship, industrial placement or work experience within either the private or public sector.
A genuine passion for planning and the built environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
A proactive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
Eligibility to work in the UK.
