Job Overview
Found Food & Drink are looking to speak with experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineers regarding a permanent opportunity with an established high-volume manufacturer in West Sussex.
You will join a sizeable engineering function responsible for maintaining and improving automated production equipment across a busy, fast-moving site.
The role combines reactive breakdown support, electrical and mechanical fault-finding, planned maintenance and longer-term reliability improvements.
This is not purely a breakdown role. The business wants engineers who can get equipment running safely but will also investigate recurring faults, improve maintenance practices and help reduce avoidable downtime.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults across automated production equipment
Respond quickly and safely to breakdowns, helping minimise disruption and downtime
Complete planned and preventative maintenance tasks
Identify recurring equipment failures and support root-cause investigations
Recommend improvements to maintenance schedules, machinery and working practices
Maintain production, processing, conveying and packaging equipment
Support equipment installations, modifications and improvement projects
Work with production teams to improve machine performance and availability
Use the site’s maintenance management system to record work and manage engineering tasks
Maintain accurate shift records and provide clear engineering handovers
Support the management of engineering parts and critical spares
Work closely with production, hygiene, quality and health and safety teams
Ensure all work meets food safety, GMP and health and safety standards
Contribute to a more preventative, predictive and reliability-led maintenance culture
What We’re Looking For
Previous maintenance engineering experience within manufacturing
A recognised engineering qualification at Level 3 or equivalent
Practical electrical and mechanical fault-finding experience
Electrical bias would be particularly useful, although genuinely multi-skilled engineers from either background will be considered
Experience completing reactive breakdowns and planned maintenance
Confidence reading technical drawings, wiring diagrams or schematics
Able to work safely and make sensible decisions under pressure
Comfortable working independently as well as part of an engineering team
Good communication skills when dealing with production and other departments
Able to record maintenance activity accurately using a CMMS or similar system
Willing to work within a fast-paced, temperature-controlled production environment
Relevant Backgrounds
Experience within food manufacturing or FMCG would be ideal, but engineers from other high-volume or highly regulated manufacturing environments will also be considered.
Relevant sectors could include:
Food and beverage manufacturing
Pharmaceutical or healthcare production
Packaging
Automated warehousing
Automotive manufacturing
Plastics
High-volume production
Other safety-critical engineering environments
Additional Experience That Would Be Useful
Root-cause analysis
Continuous improvement
Predictive or condition-based maintenance
PLC fault-finding
Hydraulics and pneumatics
Automated production or packaging systems
Refrigeration, compressed air or other site utilities
Equipment installation and commissioning
Improving existing PPM schedules
Shift Pattern
This is a rotating shift-based position covering both days and nights.
The full working pattern will be discussed during the initial conversation. Applicants must be comfortable working a rotation that may include weekends.
Benefits
Competitive salary based on experience
Additional shift-related pay
