£28.6k - £31.9k Annual
Full-Time
Location: Barnoldswick (Barlick) and surrounding Pendle area, Lancashire (BB18)

Salary: Up to £31,850 per annum

Job Type: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent

Start Date: September 2026

Qualifications: Qualified (QTS/QTLS) or Unqualified (Full training provided)

Setting: Alternative Provision (AP)

Are you an educator or natural leader looking to blend structured classroom teaching with active outdoor education?

We are seeking a resilient, practical, and inspiring Teacher or Instructor to join an Alternative Provision (AP) team in the Barnoldswick (Barlick) / BB18 area. This role offers the perfect balance for someone who thrives in a classroom setting but also believes that the great outdoors is one of the most powerful tools for engaging youth.

We welcome applications from both Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS) and Unqualified Instructors who possess strong life experience. An Armed Forces or Military background is highly valued for this role, as the structure, leadership, and calm-under-pressure mindset perfectly align with our pupils' needs.

The Role

In this dynamic role, you will step away from mainstream rigid structures to work with small groups of secondary-aged pupils who require a more personalised, nurturing approach to education. You will take full ownership of a split curriculum that blends core learning with active, outdoor projects.

Dual Environment Delivery: Lead structured learning sessions inside the classroom, and seamlessly transition into outdoor education, bushcraft, sports, or team-building exercises around the Pendle area.

Holistic Mentoring: Act as a strong, positive role model, helping vulnerable young people build resilience, accountability, and essential life skills.

Behaviour Management: Utilise your calm demeanour to de-escalate challenging situations and provide a stable environment for pupils with diverse social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Curriculum Adaptation: Plan and deliver practical, engaging lessons tailored to the individual learning levels of your students.

What We Are Looking For

Qualified or Unqualified: Open to Qualified Teachers looking for a refreshing change of pace, or Unqualified Instructors with substantial trades, sports coaching, or instructional experience.

Military / Services Background (A Plus): Veterans or ex-forces personnel looking to translate their leadership, discipline, and navigation/outdoor skills into youth mentorship are highly encouraged to apply.

Outdoor Enthusiast: Someone who is genuinely passionate about nature and active learning, and comfortable leading groups outside in all seasons.

Resilience & Composure: A firm-but-fair leader who can maintain clear boundaries while building strong, empathetic rapport with disengaged youth.

Commuting: Ideally located near Barnoldswick (BB18), Earby (BB18), or nearby areas like Colne (BB8) and Nelson (BB9).

What We Offer

Excellent Pay Structure: Up to £31,850 per annum.

Temp-to-Perm Pathway: A direct, stable route into a permanent, rewarding career within specialised education.
