About the Role
Are you an experienced Environmental Advisor looking to make your mark on one of the UK's largest and most vital infrastructure projects?
We are seeking a dynamic, site-based Environmental Advisor to join the Sizewell C Construction Delivery Team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering the next generation of nuclear power and contributing to the UK's low-carbon future. Working alongside our dedicated Environmental & Sustainability team, Tier 1 Contractors, and the wider Construction Delivery Team, you will ensure that environmental compliance, regulatory standards, and sustainability goals are seamlessly integrated into daily site operations.
What You'll Do (Principal Accountabilities)
On-Site Oversight: Conduct regular site inspections across contractor work areas to monitor environmental performance, celebrate best practices, and identify areas for correction.
Expert Guidance: Provide clear, actionable advice regarding UK environmental legislation, permits, consent conditions, and planning constraints.
Document Review: Review and approve contractors' Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), Risk Assessments, and Method Statements (RAMS) to ensure full alignment with Sizewell C standards and legal frameworks.
Audits & Self-Assessment: Support internal audits and self-assessments to maintain compliance with legal requirements and ISO 14001 procedures.
Incident Management: Support and occasionally lead environmental incident investigations, delivering comprehensive reports and actionable preventative solutions.
Risk Escalation: Proactively identify potential environmental or contractual risks, escalating them to the Environmental & Sustainability Manager in a timely, proportionate manner.
Culture Champion: Promote positive environmental behaviours and drive continuous improvement across all construction teams.
What We Are Looking For
Proven Site Experience: Background in an Environmental Management role on a live, fast-paced construction or heavy industrial project.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of UK environmental legislation, industry best practices, and reference standards relevant to construction.
Industry Frameworks: Familiarity with the client/contractor relationship and legal responsibilities under CDM 2015 Regulations.
Systems Familiarity: Practical experience working within an Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned with BS EN ISO 14001.
Key Skills: A self-starter with exceptional communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills who can collaborate effectively in a highly regulated environment.
Qualifications: A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
Desirable (But Not Essential)
Experience working on major infrastructure, mega-projects, or within the nuclear sector.
Familiarity with Development Consent Order (DCO) controlled projects or highly scrutinized environments.
Experience engaging directly with regulators, external auditors, or client environmental teams.
Why Join Us?
This is a rare opportunity to be part of a high-profile project with a strict "zero harm" ambition. You will operate in a highly professional environment that rewards integrity, offers immense career growth, and places environmental sustainability at the absolute core of its mission
