Carmichael are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team working on a major nuclear project based in Cumbria.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
SPECIFIC TO ASSIGNED WORK PACAKGE ORDER(S)
Lead all commercial and cost management activities for specific assigned work packages, ensuring alignment with strict nuclear project requirements and contractual obligations.
Prepare, manage, and report detailed project budgets, cost forecasts, and cash flow profiles, maintaining accuracy in a highly regulated and scrutinized environment.
Administer the contract ensuring compliance with nuclear-specific amendments, compensation events, and change control procedures.
Manage the valuation of works, including interim applications, compensation events, and final accounts, ensuring transparency and auditability.
Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities, working closely with project risk manager(s) to align cost and risk strategies.
Lead procurement and subcontract management processes for specific assigned work packages, including tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and appointment of subcontractors with nuclear compliance considerations.
Oversee subcontractor accounts, including payments, change, claims, and performance monitoring.
Ensure rigorous change management, with full traceability and justification required in nuclear project environments.
Provide robust cost assurance and governance, ensuring all financial decisions can withstand internal and external audits.
Liaise with engineering, planning, and project controls teams to integrate cost, schedule, and scope changes effectively.
Support the development and maintenance of the project baseline, ensuring cost impacts of design evolution and regulatory changes are captured.
Prepare detailed commercial reports for senior management, clients, and stakeholders, highlighting cost performance, risks, key performance indicators and forecasts.
Ensure compliance with nuclear industry standards, client requirements, and regulatory frameworks affecting commercial activities.
Contribute to the development and implementation of commercial strategies to optimise value while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Support the Commercial Manager with contractual claims and disputes, ensuring thorough documentation and alignment with contractual entitlements.
Support audits and assurance reviews by maintaining comprehensive, accurate, and traceable commercial records.
Promote a strong commercial awareness culture across the specific assigned work package team, ensuring cost implications are understood at all levels.
Mentor and develop junior quantity surveyors and commercial staff within the project team.
Support the Commercial Manager and interface with legal, risk, and procurement teams to manage contractual and financial exposure.
Ensure that ethical standards and compliance requirements are upheld, particularly given the sensitivity and public scrutiny of nuclear projects
