SEND Specialist Tutor
Prospero Teaching works in partnership with local authorities, SEND teams, and schools across the North East to provide tailored educational support for children and young people with additional needs. We are currently recruiting dedicated SEND Specialist Tutors to deliver 1:1 and small group tuition to students in the Spennymoor area.
The Opportunity
As a SEND Specialist Tutor, you will deliver personalised learning programmes designed to meet the unique needs of each student. You will work with children and young people with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), adapting your teaching methods to create engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning experiences.
Tuition is flexible and typically ranges from 1 to 15 hours per week, with sessions usually taking place during school hours. Tutors are also required to complete weekly progress reports to track student development, monitor learning outcomes, and ensure each student continues to receive the support they need to achieve their goals.

Location - Spennymoor

Start date - ASAP
Setting - either within the student's home or in the community (learning hub/library)
Duration - Until the pupil is able to find a suitable school placement
Contract type - Temporary
Full-time/part-time availability, ranging from 6-15hours p/w per student
Rate of pay - up to £30 per hour (negotiable)
Your role with us:
Support students with SEND through individual and small group sessions, developing self-confidence, independence, practical life skills, community awareness, and basic food preparation.
Plan and deliver bespoke learning activities that meet individual needs and close gaps in learning.
Assess and review learner progress on an ongoing basis, sharing clear and constructive feedback with students and their families.
Establish a calm, positive, and inclusive learning space that encourages engagement and restores confidence in education.
Record daily attendance accurately and complete structured weekly reports in line with requirements.Experience, Training and Qualifications of the SEND Specialist Tutor:
Children related/Education qualification
Possess UK classroom teaching experience
Be creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box
Have experience working with students with SEND including ASD, ADHD, GLD and challenging behaviour
Hold the right to work in the UK
Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
