Your new role
As a Bat Detector Ecologist, you will support environmental compliance on a major highway infrastructure project, carrying out bat activity surveys and monitoring to inform ecological mitigation and ensure works remain compliant with relevant legislation.
Key responsibilities include:
Undertaking dusk/dawn bat surveys
Deploying, retrieving and analysing bat detectors
Identifying bat species from acoustic recordings
Assisting with ecological inspections and site monitoring
Producing accurate field notes and survey data
Supporting Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) activities where required.
Liaising with site teams to communicate ecological constraints
Ensuring all work is completed in line with health and safety procedures
What you'll need to succeed
Degree in Ecology or related area
CSCS / Highways Passport
Own PPE
Experience carrying out bat activity surveys
Proficiency using bat detector equipment and software
Strong bat species identification skills
Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and best practice guidance
Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings and evenings
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Excellent communication and report-writing skills
Bat Licence L1/2
